Rockhoppin’ Trail
about Linda Doke
Three decades (plus) of ultra-distance running began with a chunk of years on tar (incl 10 Comrades, 16 Two Oceans) and followed with more than 25 years of trail, racing through canyons, on beaches, deserts, islands, glaciers, salt flats, over mountains, escarpments and peaks. Nine years ago I began coaching, passing on the ultra-running lessons I’ve learned to help others seeking to reach beyond their comfort zones discover their full potential.
Choc nut energy bars
Chocolate, nuts, no sugar, raw, and damn delicious - these bars have it all! * And for those of you who look for the V sign, they happily tick the vegan box too. Ingredients moist dates (pitted and chopped) 300g raw cashews 280g raw almonds 60g...
… and all about the one who DID win the 2017 Western States 100
Anyone who knows anything about Ryan Sandes knows he epitomises the phrase less is more. The less I’m referring to isn’t less training, less speed or less talent – not even by a smidgeon. Instead it’s less talk, more action. Unlike others on the start line, the winner...
Less about the one who didn’t win WS100…
It’s a week on from Western States, and yet still we’re seeing articles focusing on the guy who didn’t win the race. I’m flummoxed. Anyone would think this was the first time in running history a race favourite didn’t end up the race winner! Surely the answer is...
Mapungubwe Transfrontier Wildrun 2017
I’m torn. And I mean, really torn. My head wants to write about the wonderful experience I had last week, telling the world how fantastic it was to run in the African bush with wild game and to see, feel, taste and smell true southern African bush veld. But my...
How trail running is blazing in South Africa
I wrote this article for the now no-longer TrailBlazing - it looks at the evolution of trail running in South Africa, from past to present, and what's ahead. Trail running is older than the hills, but in the last 10 years has burst into growth around the world....
new year = new goals?
It’s a strange phenomenon, New Year. In Western culture we’re socialised to see the first day of the year as a new start, a time to reflect, look ahead and to set goals for the next 12 months. And yet January 1st is really no different from any other of the...
Rockhoppin’ Trail interview with Robyn Owen
It has been ages since I profiled anyone on Rockhoppin’ Trail. Back in 2013 it had been my plan to write regular profiles, but somehow life, time and training got in the way and instead I stuck to the loose, unscheduled kind of style that is more appropriate for...
Thailand Power of Ten Challenge
Running an ultra is no doddle. Anything over 42km is gruelling on the body, and the further you push, the tougher it gets. Add to that the conditions you’re running in and the terrain you’re running on, and things can get rather interesting… Now, imagine running 50km...
A black tale of the Tor des Géants 2016
NOTE: This is not a race report on the Tor des Géants 2016. It is instead a colourful, or rather dark, description of my short experience of that fantastic race. (Warning: this post is not for readers whose stomachs are of a sensitive disposition...) ...
The North Face Zagori 80km 2016
Harsh, rugged dolomite peaks and mountainous landscapes ripped, cut and carved over millennia of geological shifts, this is Zagori – a 1 000km2 region in northwestern Greece near the Albanian border, far off the tourist path and majestic in its...

Testimonials
She is extremely intuitive; I feel supported while she challenges me beyond my comfort zone. She has guided me through 4 years’ worth of epic trail running adventures and podiums. She even made sure I bagged a Comrades Silver in my brief lapse of judgement when needed to try the road scene. Linda helps keeps my passion for running fuelled. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to get the most out of their running!
