Rockhoppin’ Trail
about Linda Doke
Three decades (plus) of ultra-distance running began with a chunk of years on tar (incl 10 Comrades, 16 Two Oceans) and followed with more than 25 years of trail, racing through canyons, on beaches, deserts, islands, glaciers, salt flats, over mountains, escarpments and peaks. Nine years ago I began coaching, passing on the ultra-running lessons I’ve learned to help others seeking to reach beyond their comfort zones discover their full potential.
Outeniqua Quest 2014
I'm a sucker for challenge and adventure. Throw me nouns like mountain, forest, desert, river, rock, glacier, cliff; lace them with adjectives like dramatic, testing, far, dark, remote, indigenous, and my ears prick up like a kid's when offered candy. Spice up the...
Trail Hero of the Month: May – Stevie Kremer
It’s still May (only just) and time enough to squeeze in Rockhoppin’ Trail’s Trail Hero of the Month for May. This month it’s someone who’s still at the fresher end of her running career, who’s getting faster with every race she wins, and who has many exciting years...
Whale of Trail 2014
The Whale of Trail: 53km of testing trail, the first half of it amongst the finest protea-studded Cape fynbos, and the other half along spectacular, jagged Cape coastline. (The whale part was a misnomer on the day, unfortunately, as the sea was so choppy from...

Trail Hero of the Month – March: Ryno Griesel
Today sees the launch of Rockhoppin’ Trail’s THOM. Acronym lovers out there should be thrilled to see the inception of a pronounceable one – after all, I could’ve made it RTTHOM. But that would’ve been silly. So I opted for THOM – Trail Hero of the Month. There’ll be...
Indlela yoBunthu – the Pilgrim Trail
A couple of months ago, Craig and I took part in a few days of something very special. It blended our love for trail, for South Africa, and for feeling in touch with the natural beauty around us, with the special pleasure of sharing a wonderful experience with...
Slogging becomes soul-running at the LUT
So there I was, on the start line of the Lesotho Ultra Trail (LUT), Africa’s first Ultra Skymarathon, 50km of gruelling, lung-busting technical trail in the Maloti mountains of Lesotho. This would be skyrunning at its best, throwing at us everything a skyrunning event...
Three Peaks Challenge 2013
Having a national park set in a city is not unique, there’re many such urban escapes around the world. But here’s the thing: how many cities can boast not only THE most beautiful national park (please allow for the writer’s completely unbiased opinion), but one...
